Busan Takes a Step Toward Becoming an 'AI Smart City'... Selected for the Ministry of Science and ICT's 'Artificial Intelligence Data Construction Project' Busan City Hall.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The project to develop Busan into an AI-based smart city is progressing smoothly.

Busan City has been selected in two categories in the ‘AI Learning Data Construction Project’ competition, hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and supported by the National Information Society Agency (NIA), securing 3.6 billion KRW in national funding.

This competition aims to build and open AI learning data with high usability according to private and public demand. It supports the promotion of intelligent innovation services in local communities and the creation of large-scale jobs.

Busan City, in consortium with the local AI specialist company DI Solution, plans to build high-quality CCTV video data essential for AI development by the end of this year, including ‘Analysis of Floating Population by Local Commercial District’ and ‘Monitoring of Major Park Facilities and Illegal Activities.’

The main contents include ▲Analysis of Floating Population by Local Commercial District, which collects data such as gender, age, store visits, duration of stay, and means of transportation centered on commercial districts like Jagalchi Market, Banyeo Agricultural Wholesale Market, Sasang Terminal, Yeonsan Intersection, Dongnae Station, and Sajik Baseball Stadium to analyze the characteristics of local commercial districts.

Also, ▲Monitoring of Major Park Facilities and Illegal Activities collects data on illegal cooking, illegal fishing, facility damage, entry of two-wheeled vehicles (kickboards) into parks, tent installation in prohibited areas, drinking behavior, and other illegal activities centered on Citizen Park, Children’s Grand Park, Jungang Park, Taejongdae Resort, and Yongdusan Park to protect citizens’ safety and property within the parks.

Busan City plans to create about 200 digital jobs to promote the project. Recruitment is currently underway through Saramin and the DI Solution website, aiming to create jobs for vulnerable employment groups such as young job seekers severely affected economically by COVID-19 and women with career interruptions.

Park Hyung-jun, Mayor of Busan, said, “Our goal is to leap into an ‘AI-based smart city’ that makes citizens happy through securing AI commercial district analysis technology and developing intelligent video analysis business models such as automatic identification of illegal activities in parks.”
