Ministry of Science and ICT Gathers in Metaverse Space
545 Companies and Institutions Participate in Online Agreement Ceremony
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The key players of the ‘Artificial Intelligence Training Data Construction Project’ gathered in the metaverse space.
On the 6th at 2:30 PM, the Ministry of Science and ICT held a win-win cooperation agreement ceremony to pledge mutual cooperation for the successful promotion of the AI training data construction project, a core task of the Data Dam, and for the growth and development of participating personnel such as crowdworkers.
The AI training data construction project is a large-scale initiative to build and open AI training data essential for AI service development. Last year, over 31,000 crowdworkers participated and constructed 170 types of data. Since its opening in June this year, the number of downloads has exceeded 12,000 within just one month.
The institutions attending the agreement ceremony pledged to continuously contribute to building high-quality data, a core resource leading the AI era, and to overcoming the job crisis caused by COVID-19. Crowdsourcing participating organizations promised to cooperate in providing fair treatment and growth support for crowdworkers responsible for data collection and processing.
From August, the Ministry of Science and ICT has been promoting capacity-building education for AI training data construction personnel to enhance the expertise of crowdworkers. Crowdsourcing participating organizations also plan to operate their own training programs.
A man in his 50s participating as a crowdworker said, “I originally ran a business overseas, but after returning to Korea due to COVID-19, I faced financial difficulties with no definite departure date and no suitable work. By participating in data labeling, I was able to return to economic activity and successfully settle in Korea, overcoming difficulties.”
Cho Kyung-sik, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, “The Data Dam, filled together by our companies and citizens, will be a cornerstone for the development of our AI industry. We will also take an active interest and provide strong support so that this win-win cooperation agreement ceremony can be an opportunity for all participants to take pride as leaders of digital transformation and receive fair compensation and opportunities for skill development.”
