[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 6th that Park Il, Director of Nuclear Non-Proliferation Diplomacy Planning, met with Thomas Markram, UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, at the UN Headquarters in New York on the 5th (local time) to discuss cooperation measures.
Both parties agreed to promote various cooperative projects to expand youth engagement, taking advantage of Korea's submission of the 2nd "Youth and Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Resolution" to the UN General Assembly this year. Accordingly, the "Korea-UN Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Conference" will be held in Seoul in November.
Both sides shared assessments of the international disarmament and non-proliferation environment and outlook, and agreed to closely cooperate for the successful hosting of the evaluation meeting commemorating the 50th anniversary of the entry into force of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) scheduled for January next year.
