[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Seon-ae] From midnight to 9 p.m. on Thursday the 5th, a total of 463 new COVID-19 cases were tentatively reported in Seoul, according to the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Compared to the same time frame, this is 3 more cases than the previous day (the 4th) with 460 cases, and 21 fewer than last Thursday (July 29) with 484 cases. The total daily confirmed cases were 466 on August 4 and 488 on July 29.
The daily number of confirmed cases in Seoul broke records twice in July, with 583 cases on the 6th and 638 cases on the 13th. Especially during the 29th week of this year (July 11?17), the daily average exceeded 500 cases throughout the week. Since then, the spread has somewhat slowed, but the weekly daily average has not significantly decreased and remains in the high 400s.
Over the recent 15 days (July 21 to August 4), Seoul recorded an average of 451 confirmed cases per day, with an average of 56,752 tests conducted daily. During this period, the daily positivity rate (confirmed cases compared to the previous day's tests) averaged around 0.8%.
Assuming the daily positivity rate pattern remains consistent in the final tally on the 5th and considering the number of tests conducted on the 4th, the number of new COVID-19 cases in Seoul on the 5th is expected to be in the high 400s.
This week, the number of tests conducted in Seoul has remained in the 50,000 range: 59,231 on the 2nd, 55,634 on the 3rd, and 56,287 on the 4th.
As of 9 p.m. on the 5th, among the new confirmed cases in Seoul, 5 were imported cases, and the remaining 458 were domestic infections.
As of this time, the cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Seoul was tentatively counted at 66,918. The total number of confirmed cases for the day will be finalized and announced on the morning of the 6th based on the 0 a.m. tally.
