Hwasun-gun Promotes Peony as a Promising Income Crop

[Hwasun=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Ji-woon] Jeollanam-do Hwasun-gun (Governor Gu Chung-gon) announced on the 5th that it will focus on cultivating peony through this year’s ‘Small-scale Farmers’ Horticultural Specialty Crop Production Base Construction Project.’

The county plans to support the purchase cost of peony rootstocks for farmers who wish to cultivate peony.

The support unit price is 1,000 KRW per 1㎡ (500 KRW subsidy), and self-use of rootstocks and private undocumented transactions are excluded from support.

Previously, the county supported 220 million KRW for peony planting costs until last year and established a 13-hectare peony plantation in the Dongbok and Baeka-myeon areas.

All peonies are purchased by the Jeonnam Herbal Medicine Cooperative, so there are no difficulties in sales after harvest, which is expected to contribute to increasing farmers’ income.

Farmers who wish to apply for the project can submit an application form and related documents to the administrative welfare center of their address’s eup or myeon by the 20th.

A county official said, “We will do our best to preserve the income of herbal medicine farmers, whose businesses have been depressed due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, and to establish a stable production base.”
