[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 5th that it has completed the installation project of historical image streetlights in the area near Jinju Fortress, connecting Gongbukmun, Mang-gyeong-dong, and Cheonsugyo, to create a landscape that harmonizes with Jinju Fortress, a representative historic site of the region, and enhances the city's dignity.
Jinju Fortress is a representative tourist destination frequently visited by tourists coming to Jinju, featuring beautiful natural scenery where history breathes.
The city installed image streetlights mainly around Jinju Fortress so that visitors can stroll while feeling the traditional spatial atmosphere harmonized with the fortress.
The streetlights are characterized by a modern interpretation of the fortress gates of Jinju Fortress and traditional cheongsachorong (Korean traditional lanterns), with added landscape lighting elements.
LED lights were inserted into the images of Chokseokru Pavilion and cheongsachorong lanterns to create the effect of flames flickering and moving, giving a differentiated impression from ordinary streetlights that emphasize only functional aspects, earning favorable reviews from citizens.
Since the launch of the current 7th local government administration, Jinju City has been devoting great effort to improving urban lighting and installing landscape lighting suitable for the dignity of Jinju, a city with a thousand-year history, to realize Jinju as a city with beautiful night views.
With continuous lighting improvements, roads have become significantly brighter, ensuring sufficient visibility for nighttime drivers and improving the walking environment for vulnerable traffic groups such as the elderly and children, which is evaluated to have greatly reduced concerns about nighttime safety accidents recently.
A city official stated, “Along with the installation of image streetlights, we will do our best to create a street environment worthy of the reputation of a UNESCO Creative City through ongoing projects such as the replacement of LED streetlight fixtures.”
