[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Yuri] Starfield Goyang announced on the 5th that it will hold the 'Coexistence Art Festival' at the Central Atrium from the 6th to the 15th. The plan is to serve as a 'space for artistic communication' where emerging artists meet the public, promoting coexistence with the cultural and artistic community.
Starfield has been conducting coexistence activities to revitalize the cultural and artistic sectors. Starfield Goyang, Hanam, and Anseong operate 'Small Museums' that can be visited free of charge, providing exhibition opportunities to artists who lack platforms. Starfield COEX Mall holds the annual Byeolmadang Library 'Open Art Contest' to discover emerging artists, offering opportunities to exhibit works in the center of Byeolmadang Library along with financial support.
The company stated that this Coexistence Art Festival was prepared together with Choice Art Company to contribute to overcoming the crisis in the cultural and artistic sectors caused by COVID-19, supporting promotion and market development of artworks to provide practical help.
Local residents and visitors can naturally encounter culture and arts in their daily living spaces such as shopping malls and appreciate high-quality works. They also have the opportunity to acquire new works with a youthful sensibility. The exhibition features a total of over 40 artists, including emerging artists, with about 150 works on display. The genres are diverse, including painting, crafts, sculpture, and upcycled furniture.
Visitors can see works by about 20 millennial artists who will lead the art world. The exhibition mainly features young and trendy works, which are also available for purchase on-site. Meetings with artists are also prepared. This event also exhibits works by artists from Mullae-dong, sponsored by POSCO Construction.
In the ECO ZONE, works themed on 'environment' are exhibited. The exhibition includes works by artist Kang Young-min, who creates chairs and furniture using waste plastic discarded during painting processes such as bus handrails; artist Go Sang-woo, who lovingly depicts endangered animals; and artist Kim Ji-yong, who produces upcycled bags using discarded waterproof fabrics and waste fibers.
Lim Young-rok, CEO of Shinsegae Property, said, "We planned the 'Coexistence Art Festival' to provide practical support by offering exhibition and sales opportunities to emerging artists facing difficulties, and to revitalize customers' weary daily lives through the power of culture and arts that span all generations." He added, "We hope that through the values of encounter, communication, and coexistence with art that this exhibition offers, both participating artists and visitors will have a time of healing and comfort."
