FSS Issues Consumer Alert on Disaster Relief Fund 'Loan Scam Text Messages'

FSS Issues Consumer Alert on Disaster Relief Fund 'Loan Scam Text Messages'

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jin-ho] The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) issued a consumer alert on the 5th, stating that voice phishing scam texts impersonating the government's emergency fund loans and special guarantee loans are continuously increasing.

According to the FSS, since August, there has been a growing concern over a surge in loan scam texts impersonating the national disaster relief funds and small business owners' Hope Recovery Funds disbursements.

The FSS urged that if you receive such related text messages, do not click on the URL address under any circumstances, delete the message immediately, and do not reply or call the number that sent the message. They also advised not to answer suspicious calls, and if answered, to hang up immediately.

In particular, all loan advertisement messages impersonating financial companies and pretending to offer special government fund support are considered voice phishing. They advised refusing to provide personal information or transfer funds, and if any damage funds have been sent, to immediately request an account suspension.
