[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] KT DS, an IT service specialist company under the KT Group, announced on the 5th that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Veritas Korea, a data protection specialist company, to collaborate on providing cloud-based total backup services (BaaS).
The two companies agreed on ▲technical integration of KT Cloud and Veritas solutions ▲joint sales and consulting ▲collaborative business opportunity development. Through this, their top priority is to protect customers from cyber threats that are increasingly sophisticated and expanding damage amid the recent spread of digital transformation, while aiming to lead the cloud backup market, a latest trend, and accelerate digital transformation.
The newly launched cloud backup service by KT DS combines KT DS’s cloud infrastructure technology, which has reliably operated vast telecommunication data, with Veritas’s backup solution ‘NetBackup,’ providing not only improved convenience but also stronger data protection capabilities.
When using the cloud backup service, customers can experience total backup services such as disaster recovery, backup and operation of long-term stored data, and backup outsourcing targeted at on-premises (own servers) and multi/hybrid customers, differentiated from simple backups mainly focused on existing IaaS (cloud infrastructure services). In particular, since this service is subscription-based with only a monthly fee, it can reduce costs related to purchasing backup equipment, technical support, and system operation.
Veritas’s ‘NetBackup’ solution is an all-in-one product optimized for security. It provides enhanced resilience against ransomware attacks through storage immutability that prevents any data tampering regardless of the type of attack.
Woo Jung-min, CEO of KT DS, said, “We are pleased that the combination of the two companies’ excellent technology and business capabilities enables customers to safely experience the convenience of cloud services,” adding, “Starting with this collaboration, we will accelerate customer TCO reduction and cloud market penetration by leveraging the strengths of KT, KT DS, and Veritas, and support safer digital transformation for enterprises.”
