Five Greek Artistic Swimming Athletes Tested Positive... Unable to Compete in Games
The first cluster of COVID-19 infections occurred at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Village in Harumi, Tokyo, Japan. On the 4th, the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee reported that four Greek artistic swimming athletes and one official tested positive for COVID-19. All of them were staying in the Olympic Village. Masanori Takaya, the organizing committee spokesperson, said, "We cannot say this is not a cluster infection." The Greek artistic swimming team, including seven members who tested negative, were all moved to accommodation care facilities or waiting facilities. The artistic swimming duet and team events will not be able to compete. Meanwhile, the organizing committee also reported that 29 athletes and event officials tested positive for COVID-19 on the same day. This brings the total number of confirmed cases related to the Tokyo Olympics since the 1st of last month to 327.
