Assemblyman Yoon Jae-gap Urges Utilization of Reclaimed Land for Production, Processing, and Storage of Forest Products

[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Rep. Yoon Jae-gap (Haenam, Wando, Jindo, Jeollanam-do) announced on the 4th that he has taken the lead in proposing the "Partial Amendment to the Act on the Agricultural and Fishery Use and Management of Reclaimed Land," which allows reclaimed land to be used for the production, processing, and storage facilities of forest products.

The current law permits the development of reclaimed land within utilization project zones for the production, processing, storage, and distribution facility complexes of agricultural, livestock, and fishery products; however, there is no legal basis for forestry, causing difficulties for foresters in utilizing reclaimed land.

Accordingly, legal grounds were established to allow reclaimed land to be used for the production, processing, storage, and distribution facilities of forest products, thereby increasing the utilization of reclaimed land.

Rep. Yoon Jae-gap said, "If the amendment is passed, it will be possible to use reclaimed land for forestry purposes, such as cultivating trees and other perennial crops, which is expected to greatly help improve the competitiveness of forestry and forest industries."

He added, "If foresters, who have had difficulties using reclaimed land, actively utilize reclaimed land through this amendment, the competitiveness of forestry and forest industries will be strengthened."
