National Fire Agency Research Institute, 'On-Site Response Technique Video Contest'... Sharing Lock Release Methods Nationwide

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The National Fire Agency Research Institute announced on the 5th that it held the '1st Our Own Field Response Technique Video Contest' and selected 4 outstanding works out of 35 submissions.

Considering the COVID-19 situation, the awards were sent to the fire stations of the winning teams on July 30, and the fire station chiefs were instructed to present them during the first week of August.

This contest was held to discover and share response techniques developed and utilized by firefighters during field activities but not yet incorporated into formal training courses.

The grand prize was awarded to the 'Ambulance Stretcher Fall Safety Equipment' from Mokpo Fire Station in Jeonnam. This technique involves installing a safety device in advance using ropes to prevent the stretcher from falling when it is not fully extended while being unloaded from the ambulance. The excellence award went to Gwangyang Fire Station in Jeonnam for a method of extinguishing fires using a portable pump when the fire truck pump malfunctions. The merit award was given to Gimcheon Fire Station in Gyeongbuk for a technique using ropes to easily and undamagedly retrieve a rope fixed on the opposite side after rescuing a person. The special award was given to Sacheon Fire Station in Gyeongnam for a method of opening various door locks without damaging them.

The winning works will be posted on the National Fire Agency Research Institute's YouTube channel '119 Research' so that all firefighters nationwide can easily watch, learn, and apply them in field activities. However, the door lock opening technique will be shared as an electronic document due to the risk of misuse.

Lee Chang-seop, director of the National Fire Agency Research Institute, said, "We plan to continue holding contests to discover and share field activity know-how, and we expect these contests to uniformly enhance the firefighting capabilities of the Republic of Korea."
