[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Dong-joo] Choi Jae-hyung, former head of the Board of Audit and Inspection and a presidential pre-candidate of the People Power Party, declared his candidacy for the presidential election on the 4th at Miracle Studio in Paju, Gyeonggi Province.

At the online declaration ceremony, Choi explained his reason for resigning with six months left in his term to run for president, saying, “As a member of the people, I could not just stand by and watch the collapsing Republic of Korea,” and added, “I will risk criticism and dedicate myself for the sake of Korea.”

Following his presidential candidacy announcement, Choi will begin a nationwide tour schedule.
