When Purchasing a CO Alarm, Carefully Check if It Is a KFI Certified Product
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Kiturami Co., Ltd. has urged boiler inspections and the installation of carbon monoxide detectors as the use of accommodations such as pensions and guesthouses increases during the summer vacation season.
Since August 5 last year, the government has mandated the installation of carbon monoxide detectors in accommodations that newly install or replace gas boilers. Accommodations using gas boilers without carbon monoxide (CO) detectors must complete installation by the 4th.
Kiturami emphasized that since hot water is used for showers, dishwashing, and indoor swimming pools, business operators running accommodations should inspect boilers and install carbon monoxide detectors according to regulations.
Additionally, if the existing boiler has been in use for more than 10 years, the risk of malfunction and safety accidents is high, so it is recommended to replace it with a new boiler and install a CO detector simultaneously.
CO detectors must be products approved by the Korea Fire Industry Technology Institute (KFI). Kiturami separately marks the KFI certification logo on the packaging of its carbon monoxide detector product, SAFE On, so that consumers can easily verify that it is a KFI-certified product.
Meanwhile, Kiturami launched the first-generation CO detector "Gas119," which was the industry's first to obtain KFI certification in the 2000s. Since then, it has continued to supply new products with improved CO detector performance in accordance with the government's new certification standards.
In particular, the battery-operated SAFE On model released this year has the advantage of being neat and freely installable at desired locations because it operates on batteries, unlike the plug-in model for home use that uses 220V power outlets.
It applies an electrochemical sensor that responds only to carbon monoxide, providing high accuracy and reliability, and consumes little power, allowing the battery to be used for more than five years without replacement. The power LED blinks at one-minute intervals to intuitively indicate the product's operating status, and the inspection button allows easy checking for any abnormalities, making maintenance convenient.
A Kiturami official said, "We hope that operators of each accommodation will actively participate in boiler inspections and carbon monoxide detector installations so that consumers can spend their vacations in a safe and comfortable environment," adding, "Since uncertified products are currently circulating on the internet and elsewhere, wise consumers should first check with sellers whether the product is KFI-certified to prevent damage."
