CJ Logistics Gonjiam Mega Hub Achieves Grade 1 in Smart Logistics Center Certification

The Gonjiam Mega Hub Terminal of CJ Logistics, located in Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, is Asia's largest advanced logistics facility, housing a parcel hub terminal and an e-commerce fulfillment center.

[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] CJ Logistics announced on the 3rd that Gonjiam Mega Hub Terminal received the highest grade, Grade 1 certification, in the ‘Smart Logistics Center Certification’ evaluation conducted for the first time this year by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

The Smart Logistics Center Certification is a system introduced in accordance with the ‘Act on the Development and Operation of Logistics Facilities,’ which was revised last year to foster an advanced logistics industry with global competitiveness. This year marked the first evaluation under this system. According to the law, the government certifies logistics facilities that incorporate Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, and big data as smart logistics centers and grants various benefits.

Gonjiam Mega Hub Terminal was evaluated as a Grade 1 logistics center, and CJ Logistics is the only company to receive the official certification excluding preliminary certifications. It is known that the terminal received high scores in both the functional area, which evaluates the level of advancement and automation in each logistics processing step, and the foundational area, which assesses the structural performance of the logistics warehouse and the level of information system implementation. In particular, the Picking Advancement System (MPS), the ITS parcel waybill recognition system, and the ‘Unloading Sorting System,’ which separately classifies large, medium, and small parcels by distinguishing the weight and volume of boxes, received high marks.

Gonjiam Mega Hub Terminal can process 1.75 million items per day, more than doubling the efficiency compared to existing CJ Logistics hub terminals. The technologies applied at Gonjiam Mega Hub Terminal are evaluated to be 3 to 5 years ahead of the industry.

Opened in 2018, Gonjiam Mega Hub Terminal has a total floor area of 300,000 square meters, equivalent to the size of 40 soccer fields, and the length of the installed sorting conveyor belts reaches 43 km, longer than a full marathon course.
