Gyeonggi-do Expands 'Taxi Rest Areas'... 8 More Added This Year

Various Convenience Facilities Equipped... 19 Additional Sites to Be Built by 2025

[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province announced on the 3rd that it plans to expand 'Taxi Rest Areas' facilities to improve the working conditions and welfare of taxi drivers.

According to the province, the rest areas are equipped with convenience facilities such as massage chairs, sleeping rooms, and exercise equipment, providing a structure suitable for taxi drivers to take breaks.

Since 2016, the province has built 15 locations in 14 cities and counties including Yongin, Namyangju, and Paju, and plans to build 19 more locations by 2025. Eight locations in eight cities and counties, including Uijeongbu and Seongnam, are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

To this end, the province intends to expand the project to include cities and counties that have not planned to build taxi rest areas, including those participating in the project.

Previously, through a survey, the province found that taxi drivers work an average of 10 hours and 41 minutes per day and sleep about 7 hours and 1 minute.

Additionally, 82.1% of respondents expressed satisfaction with the use of taxi rest area facilities, and 63.7% wished for the expansion of taxi rest areas.
