[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Eun-mo] The battery life of Samsung Electronics' new smartwatch series, the 'Galaxy Watch4,' scheduled to be unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event on the 11th, is expected to increase significantly.
According to IT specialized media WinFuture and others on the 2nd (local time), the battery life of the Galaxy Watch4 is expected to last up to 7 days.
The Galaxy Watch4 is expected to offer a kind of battery-saving mode in addition to the basic mode. When using the battery-saving mode, it is said that it can be used for up to 7 days. The Galaxy Watch4 series will apply the new 'Wear OS 3,' jointly developed with Google, instead of Samsung's proprietary operating system (OS) Tizen, which was used previously.
Currently, one of the biggest drawbacks of Google's Wear OS is battery life. When using battery for music streaming or sleep tracking, it was common not to last even a day. However, with the new integrated OS applied to the Galaxy Watch4, improvements in battery and application performance are expected.
Earlier, Google explained at the 'Google I/O 2021' annual developer conference in May that users could enjoy longer battery life and up to 30% improved app performance. In the Galaxy Watch4 series, Google Maps, Play Store, as well as Samsung Health and the AI assistant Bixby, which were applied to the existing Galaxy Watch series, will also be available.
The Galaxy Watch4 series is expected to be released as the 'Galaxy Watch4 Classic' and 'Galaxy Watch4.' The traditional watch design model is branded as 'Classic,' and the casual and simple design model as the 'Galaxy Watch' series. According to leaked information so far, the Galaxy Watch4 Classic will be offered in two versions, 42mm and 46mm, with battery capacities of 247 milliampere-hours (mAh) and 361mAh, respectively.
Additionally, the Galaxy Watch4 series will be equipped with a Super AMOLED display, 1.5GB RAM memory, and Samsung's 'Exynos W920' processor. Both the basic and classic models will provide exercise tracking, heart rate, sleep tracking, compass, and altimeter functions, and are expected to support blood pressure, electrocardiogram, and oxygen saturation measurements.
Samsung Electronics will unveil not only the Galaxy Watch4 series but also the next-generation foldable smartphones 'Galaxy Z Fold3' and 'Galaxy Z Flip3,' and wireless earphones 'Galaxy Buds2' at the Galaxy Unpacked event held online on the 11th.
