[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] The South Korean men's table tennis team advanced to the semifinals by defeating Brazil at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
The South Korean men's table tennis team, consisting of Lee Sang-su (Samsung Life), Jeong Young-sik, and Jang Woo-jin (both from Mirae Asset Securities), won 3-0 against Brazil in the quarterfinals of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics team event held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium on the afternoon of the 1st.
South Korea started off well by winning the first doubles match with Lee Sang-su and Jeong Young-sik defeating the Ishii-Sboui pair 3-0 (11-6, 11-2, 12-10). In the second singles match, Jang Woo-jin avenged his earlier loss in the individual round of 16 by beating An Gin Calderano 3-0 (11-6, 11-8, 12-10). In the third singles match, Jeong Young-sik secured South Korea's place in the semifinals by defeating Sboui 3-2 (11-6, 8-11, 11-4, 8-11, 11-7).
South Korea will face the winner of the China-France match at 2:30 PM on the 4th to compete for a spot in the finals.
Since the team event was officially adopted at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, South Korea has reached the men's team semifinals for four consecutive tournaments.
