[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] A man in his 50s who committed telephone financial fraud and traveled between Busan, Daegu, and Gyeongnam to pocket 1.4 billion won in cash has been arrested.

The Changnyeong Police Station in Gyeongnam announced on the 2nd that they arrested Mr. A on the 19th of last month on charges of habitual telephone financial fraud (violation of the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Economic Crimes) and sent him to the prosecution in custody.

According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of traveling around the Yeongnam area since mid-June, committing telephone financial fraud, and directly meeting victims to extort approximately 1.4 billion won over 75 occasions.

The police received a report from a victim who suspected Mr. A, and ambushed him at the entrance of Changnyeong traditional market, arresting him in the act as he received money.

After arresting Mr. A, the police investigated additional crimes and confirmed that the amount involved in 74 cases reached 1.4 billion won. They are continuing to investigate additional charges and accomplices beyond the confirmed 75 cases.
