[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The Kukmin Revolution Party, led by Pastor Jeon Kwang-hoon of Sarang Jeil Church, announced that it will hold a rally at Gwanghwamun Square to commemorate Liberation Day.
On the 2nd, the Kukmin Revolution Party held a press conference in front of Donghwa Duty-Free Shop in Jongno-gu, Seoul, stating, "We will break through all oppression and suppression to successfully hold the August 15 National Rally for the impeachment of the Moon Jae-in administration."
Additionally, the Kukmin Revolution Party said it will file a criminal complaint against Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, who imposed a citywide ban on rallies and a complete ban on worship services.
The Kukmin Revolution Party argued that the number of new COVID-19 cases is only increasing proportionally to the number of tests conducted and that the fatality rate is low, so the government should switch to everyday quarantine measures. They also claimed that the government's response to last year's August 15 Gwanghwamun rally shows that the government's quarantine measures are politically biased.
Meanwhile, about eight people, including Vice Chairman Ko Young-il and Secretary-General Lee Dong-ho, attended the press conference. Currently, due to social distancing level 4, only one-person protests are allowed. When the police requested voluntary dispersal, the Kukmin Revolution Party protested, saying, "Press conferences held by political parties are public duties and are not subject to the Assembly and Demonstration Act," and added, "We will file a state compensation lawsuit against the Jongno Police Station Chief and the Security Division Chief for obstructing a legitimate press conference."
