[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Incheon International Airport Corporation announced on the 2nd that it delivered 1.5 billion KRW in donation funds for the ‘Our Incheon Social Vaccine’ through the ‘Donation Ceremony for Regional Economic Revitalization for the Airport Ecosystem and Local Crisis Industries’ held at Incheon City Hall with Incheon Metropolitan City and the Community Chest of Korea in Incheon.
‘Our Incheon Social Vaccine’ is a sharing campaign conducted by the Community Chest of Korea in Incheon to overcome the COVID-19 crisis, and the 1.5 billion KRW donation from the corporation is the largest among the participating companies in the campaign.
The corporation’s donation will be used to support the airport ecosystem and local crisis industries experiencing management difficulties due to COVID-19 through the local currency (Incheon e-eum) operated by Incheon Metropolitan City. Starting from September, when citizens make payments with the local currency (Incheon e-eum) at the supported industries, an additional accumulation (up to 10%) will be added to the existing accumulation rate (10%).
The supported industries will be finalized based on the management crisis industries specified by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the sales performance of the local currency.
The corporation expects that this donation will greatly help revitalize the Incheon regional economy, which has been depressed due to COVID-19, by increasing sales in the crisis industries as well as stimulating local consumption.
Meanwhile, Incheon Airport Corporation has been implementing large-scale support measures such as rent reductions for commercial facilities and airport facility usage fees for related industries to alleviate the damage to the airport industry caused by COVID-19.
In May last year, the corporation supported about 1.7 billion KRW in donations to more than 5,700 low-income residents living in Jung-gu, Incheon, to overcome the COVID-19 crisis, making efforts to revitalize the depressed local economy.
Kim Kyung-wook, President of Incheon Airport Corporation, said, “We hope that this support from Incheon Airport Corporation will be a small help to the airport ecosystem and local crisis industries struggling due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic,” and added, “Incheon International Airport Corporation plans to faithfully fulfill its social responsibility as a public institution not only to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on the front lines of national quarantine but also to help the local community overcome the crisis.”
