Kim Hyunah Voluntarily Withdraws as SH Corporation President Nominee: "Justice Prevails"

[Asia Economy, reporter Park Jongil] Kim Hyunah, the candidate for president of SH Corporation, announced her voluntary withdrawal on the afternoon of August 1 through her social media. This, she stated, serves as a reminder of the old adage that “everything inevitably returns to its rightful course.”

The Seoul Metropolitan Council's Democratic Party of Korea (led by Cho Sangho, Seodaemun 4) said on August 3 that although the decision came somewhat late, it is fortunate that things are now moving in the right direction.

The Democratic Party of Korea had previously argued that Kim Hyunah lacked understanding and expertise regarding public housing as a candidate for SH president, and that her remarks and demeanor were inappropriate for a public official. The party had therefore called for her to be deemed unfit in the personnel hearing, for her nomination to be withdrawn, and for her voluntary resignation.

However, rather than acknowledging and addressing her own issues, Kim attempted to deflect the essence of the matter by referring to it as a “privilege of the times.” She also tried to appease the public by announcing her intention to sell real estate in Busan, which only led to further contradictions and ultimately backfired. Her “double standards” provoked public outrage, and even Hong Joonpyo, a member of her own party, publicly called for the withdrawal of her nomination.

Mayor Oh Sehoon stated that he would take this incident as a lesson, and that he should exercise greater caution and deliberation when nominating the next candidate for president. He strongly urged that a candidate with greater expertise, who fully understands and can implement Seoul’s public housing policy, and who is more upright and committed to ensuring the stability of housing supply in Seoul, should be appointed.

The Democratic Party of Korea in the Seoul Metropolitan Council concluded by promising citizens that it will continue to do its utmost to create a society in Seoul where everyone prospers together.
