[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Samho) announced on the 1st that it has delivered translated versions of the 'Housing Lease Agreement' to the Goryeoin Village Comprehensive Support Center.
The district translated and produced a standard real estate lease agreement into foreign languages to resolve communication difficulties faced by ethnic Koreans from the former Soviet Union (Goryeoin) during their initial settlement phase in Korea.
The standard real estate lease agreement translated into foreign languages was produced in Russian, English, Chinese, and Vietnamese.
The front side is written in the foreign language, and the back side is in Korean, making it easy for foreigners to understand the contents of the contract.
In Gwangsan-gu, many migrant workers live not only in Goryeoin Village but also in Hanam Industrial Complex and Pyeongdong Industrial Complex.
To ensure their housing stability, Gwangsan-gu has also placed the translated lease agreements at the administrative welfare centers in Pyeongdong, Hanamdong, and Wolgokdong. They can also be downloaded from the Gwangsan-gu website for anyone to use.
Gwangsan-gu plans to continue seeking various support measures to ensure housing stability and protect the rights of foreign residents, including Goryeoin.
A Gwangsan-gu official said, “Currently, about 7,000 Goryeoin mostly live in one-room or multi-family houses on a monthly rent basis in Wolgokdong,” adding, “We provided lease agreements in their native language because there have been cases of damage and conflicts caused by unreasonable contracts, such as not receiving the deposit back upon eviction.”
