Haenam-gun Confirms 32.4 Billion Won for River Improvement and Restoration Due to Heavy Rain Damage

Comprehensive Improvement and Restoration of Embankment Reinforcement at Daheung Sacheon, Hyunsancheon, and Josancheon

[Haenam＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Hyun] Haenam County in Jeonnam has secured a total budget of 32.4 billion KRW as three rivers?Hyeonsancheon, Daeheungsacheon, and Josancheon?have been selected as targets for improvement and restoration projects to prevent disasters.

According to the county on the 31st, these rivers suffered significant damage such as embankment collapse due to heavy rains on the 5th and 6th. The county actively requested the declaration of a special disaster area for damage recovery and the establishment of permanent disaster prevention measures.

Additionally, concerns about repeated disaster damage such as flooding of houses and farmland have been continuously raised due to the severe meandering of the rivers and insufficient cross-sectional area under bridges for water flow.

Through this improvement and restoration project, about 13 km of embankments and riverbanks will be reinforced along the three rivers, 16 bridges will be reconstructed, 7 weirs and drop structures, and 5 drainage facilities will be maintained. Upon completion, it is expected to prevent flood damage in advance.

Moreover, this project will implement comprehensive improvement and restoration measures aimed at disaster prevention rather than simple restoration to the original state, thereby preventing redundant investments for repeated damage.

County Governor Myeong Hyun-gwan stated, “Despite the poor local financial situation, securing this project budget has made it possible to proceed with rapid restoration work,” and added, “We will establish a foundation through comprehensive river improvement and restoration projects so that residents can live safely.”
