[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 30th that it held a completion ceremony for the basic course of the ‘2021 Jinju City Urban Regeneration Youth Activist Training’ aimed at encouraging young people to settle in the region and fostering urban regeneration experts and activists through the urban regeneration project.

The Jinju City Urban Regeneration Youth Activist Training was developed as a collaborative program with the LINC+ project group of Gyeongsang National University and has been conducted for the third year this year.

This training was conducted over five weeks from June 24th targeting a total of 20 local university (graduate) students and youth, and 19 participants completed the course through comprehensive basic theoretical education and brainstorming practice.

Among the graduates, four were selected for the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s Urban Regeneration Youth Internship, and three became coordinators at the Urban Regeneration Support Center, realizing the potential for job creation.

Additionally, this year, the Jinju City Urban Regeneration Youth Activist Training was selected as an excellent case in the operational system category of the Urban Regeneration New Deal Education jointly hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), recognized as a model urban regeneration capacity-building education through collaboration with a specialized local university.

Kim Da-hee, a student from the Department of Environmental Engineering at Gyeongsang National University who received a certificate on this day, said, “Living in Jinju and seeing the decline of the old downtown area sparked my interest in urban regeneration, which led me to participate in this training. Through this education, I realized the very important role of us young people and had an opportunity to think about Jinju, where I live, once again, which was very meaningful.”

Center Director Kim Young said, “The driving force that changes the region is the creative ideas and activities of young people,” adding, “I hope that through the urban regeneration youth activist training jointly promoted with local universities, more young people will develop their capabilities and have opportunities to participate in urban regeneration projects.”

Kang Sang-soo, head of the Gyeongsang National University LINC+ project group, stated, “As a national flagship national university, Gyeongsang National University will continue to do its best to create the capacity and opportunities for local youth and university students to recognize regional problems on their own and actively solve them.”
