Gangneung-si, Focused Crackdown on COVID-19 Prevention in Vulnerable Areas Special COVID-19 Quarantine Inspection [Provided by Gangneung City]

[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gangneung City announced on the 30th that "due to the rapid increase in COVID-19 confirmed cases, intensive inspections will be conducted until August 8th in vulnerable areas such as multi-use facilities, back roads, and parks within entertainment districts in the city."

The city has formed a joint inspection team with the police to focus on areas including Gyodong Residential Area, the old terminal, Okcheon-dong, and Ponam-dong, inspecting compliance with quarantine rules at entertainment establishments such as pubs, clubs, emotional pubs, hunting pochas, and karaoke rooms.

The inspection team plans to mainly check the number of people according to the social distancing level (private gatherings of five or more prohibited), business operations after 10 p.m., and outdoor dining activities.

At the town, township, and neighborhood levels, local self-governing organizations will inspect violations of quarantine rules in back road alley restaurants and parks, with a particular focus on nighttime inspections due to many complaints about dining in front of convenience stores.

Violations of quarantine rules will be fined up to 3 million won for managers and up to 100,000 won for users in accordance with the "Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Act."

Mayor Kim Han-geun stated, "We plan to mobilize all administrative power for intensive inspections until next week," and urged citizens to comply with personal quarantine rules such as wearing masks.
