[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] A man in his 50s who became enraged and wielded a weapon at a veterinarian and the hospital director after his pet dog died during surgery was arrested by the police on the 29th.
Im Hae-ji, the chief judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Southern District Court, held a pre-arrest detention hearing (warrant review) for Kim (53), who is accused of special assault, and issued an arrest warrant. Judge Im stated the reason for issuing the warrant was "concern over the risk of flight."
Kim is accused of stabbing a veterinarian's arm with medical scissors, causing injury, after becoming enraged when his pet dog died during a neutering surgery at an animal hospital in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul, around 5:30 p.m. on the 27th. After the disturbance, Kim left the hospital but returned about 30 minutes later intoxicated and struck the hospital director on the head with a soju bottle, causing injury. The victims, who sustained wounds to their arms and heads, received hospital treatment but are reported to be out of life-threatening danger.
The Yangcheon Police Station in Seoul arrested Kim in the act and applied for an arrest warrant the day before.
