100MW-scale Total Project Cost of 700 Billion KRW Invested
Construction Starts in 2022, Commercial Operation for 20 Years from 2025
[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] The world's largest eco-friendly fuel cell power plant will be established in the Dongchuncheon General Industrial Complex.
On the 29th, Chuncheon City announced, "We have signed an investment agreement for the fuel cell power generation project together with Dongchun Green Energy Co., Samdeok Accounting Corporation, IPM Korea, Hana Financial Investment, POSCO Engineering & Construction, and Doosan Fuel Cell."
According to the city, each organization will promote the fuel cell power generation project on a 37,681㎡ site within the Dongchuncheon General Industrial Complex. The facility produces electricity by separating hydrogen from natural gas (LNG) and reacting it with oxygen in the air.
The scale is the world's largest at 100MW, with a total project cost reaching 700 billion KRW, and construction is scheduled to begin in 2022 with commercial operation planned for 20 years starting in 2025.
The annual electricity production is about 800 million kWh, enough to supply power to 220,000 households based on a four-person family, which accounts for 22% of Chuncheon City's electricity consumption. By 2030, this will enable the early achievement of a 20% energy self-sufficiency rate.
Additionally, linked with the fuel cell power generation project that coexists with the local community, approximately 1,800 local jobs will be created during the power plant construction period, and during operation, about 20 new jobs for regular operation and maintenance personnel are expected.
Hana Financial Investment will provide financial support from the early stages of project development, POSCO Engineering & Construction will handle comprehensive EPC completion, and Doosan Fuel Cell will reliably supply the main fuel cell equipment and maintenance during the operation period.
IPM Group, a domestic and international infrastructure specialist investor, will participate as the largest shareholder of Dongchuncheon Green Energy, and Samdeok Accounting Corporation will take on the project management (PM) role overseeing the entire project development.
A city official stated, "We expect this to greatly contribute to the economic development of the Chuncheon region as a hub producing eco-friendly energy in line with the government's hydrogen economy activation policy."
