258 Civic and Social Organizations Formed... "Will Shave Heads if National Assembly Act Delayed"

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] The National Emergency Countermeasures Committee for the Construction of the National Assembly Sejong Hall was launched on the 28th.

The 'National Emergency Countermeasures Committee for Balanced National Development and the Construction of the National Assembly Sejong Hall,' composed of 258 civic and social organizations nationwide including the Chungcheong region, held its inaugural meeting at Sejong City Hall on the same day.

The launch ceremony was attended by Lee Chunhee, Mayor of Sejong; Hong Seongguk, Member of the National Assembly; Lee Taehwan, Chairman of the Sejong City Council; and Yoo Cheolgyu, Chairman of the Special Committee for the Completion of the Administrative Capital of the Sejong City Council, among others.

The committee plans to appeal to the National Assembly Steering Committee for the passage of the amendment to the National Assembly Act, which includes the establishment of the National Assembly Sejong Hall, and will promote activities such as meetings with the leadership of both ruling and opposition parties and the Speaker of the National Assembly, issuing statements, holding rallies, policy discussions, and workshops.

Im Seungdal, the standing representative, said, "There have been many trials and tribulations, including unconstitutional rulings and amendment controversies, until today's Sejong City was established, but we have overcome them by uniting as one," adding, "If the passage of the amendment to the National Assembly Act continues to be delayed, we will not hesitate to take strong measures such as shaving our heads, sit-ins, and fasting."

Member of the National Assembly Hong Seongguk emphasized, "Korea's problem boils down to 'concentration in the metropolitan area,' and the construction of the National Assembly Sejong Hall will also benefit Yeonghonam," urging, "Please raise your voices to revive the 5.6 million Chungcheong area and the 25 million non-metropolitan areas."
