The U.S. men's basketball team, after suffering a blow from France, took revenge against Iran. On the 28th, at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan, they crushed Iran 120-66 in the second game of Group A in the men's basketball preliminary round of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Securing their first win in this tournament, they signaled a green light for their challenge to win the Olympic title for the fourth consecutive time. Their final group stage opponent is the Czech Republic, who defeated Iran 84-78. The match is scheduled for the 31st.

The U.S. lost their first game against France 76-83 on the 25th. They lost focus near the end of the game, missing passes and allowing a comeback. However, this game was different. They made nineteen three-pointers, consistently neutralizing Iran's defense. They missed only one free throw out of eighteen attempts. Scoring 60 points in the first half alone, they secured the lead early. The spearhead was Damian Lillard, who scored 21 points with seven three-pointers in about 23 minutes. Devin Booker and Jayson Tatum also contributed with 16 and 14 points respectively. For Iran, Hamed Haddadi fought hard with 14 points and 7 rebounds.
