[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] Coupang is expanding its investment in small and medium logistics hubs nationwide and increasing job creation. Coupang announced on the 28th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Gyeryong City to operate a logistics camp. Through this MOU, Coupang plans to invest a total of 17 billion KRW in Gyeryong City and create more than 300 jobs. Coupang and Gyeryong City agreed to mutually cooperate in prioritizing the hiring of local residents.

Following Jeollabuk-do in March, Coupang announced investment plans exceeding 1 trillion KRW in total in Gyeongsangnam-do in April, Chungcheongbuk-do in May, and Busan in June. This is expected to contribute to regional economic development by creating approximately 9,500 direct employment jobs and supporting local small business owners.

Starting with Gyeryong City, Coupang plans to strengthen small and medium logistics hubs in the metropolitan area and the central and southern regions by the first half of next year. Coupang has been building a logistics network of small and medium hubs (camps) nationwide, including in the Chungcheong region as well as Jeju, Jeonju, and Changwon.

A Coupang official said, "Along with large-scale investments, we expect to make the nationwide logistics infrastructure more dense by continuously investing in and expanding employment at small and medium logistics hubs. We will support the growth of local residents and small business owners to contribute to balanced regional development."
