[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) announced on the 28th that it has completed the maintenance of approximately 2.3 km of bicycle roads that were damaged by last year's flood or deteriorated due to aging, with a budget of 600 million KRW to ensure the safety and convenience of bicycle users.
The bicycle road maintained by Seo-gu is the section from Gwangju Bridge to Gwangcheon 1 Bridge. During the process, multiple consultations were held with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to select materials that have excellent drivability and permeability while being environmentally friendly.
In consideration of the visibility for bicycle users, the road markings were repainted, and the bicycle road scenery was refreshed to provide psychological stability.
Additionally, in sections where collisions between bicycles and pedestrians are a concern, bicycle-only road signs and road markings were installed at 100-meter intervals to maximize safety.
A Seo-gu official stated, “We will continue to secure budgets in the future to improve the usage environment of bicycle-only roads along Gwangju Stream and Yeongsan River, and do our best to ensure the safe use of bicycles by citizens.”
