[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] “Science watches over crime scenes!” High school students are taking courses they cannot learn at school during their summer vacation.
The high school summer school held at Dong-Eui University is gaining momentum. The university’s Admissions Management Team is conducting the ‘2021 High School Summer School’ courses for first and second-year high school students for two weeks from the 26th to August 7th.
Previously, six courses from Dong-Eui University were selected for the ‘2021 High School Summer School Project’ organized by the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education.
The program consists of inquiry and activity-based experiential learning, which is difficult to offer in the regular school curriculum, providing practical benefits for students’ career preparation.
This year, due to COVID-19, classes are being conducted online, offering courses such as △Interesting Financial Stories △Science at Crime Scenes △SW Coding Algorithms to Improve Computational Thinking △Exciting 3D Animation Video Production Experience △Sports Science Class with Sports Instructors and Prospective Physical Education Teachers △Customized Professional Physical Therapy Experience for Each Life Cycle.
‘Interesting Financial Stories’ covers topics tailored to students interested in economics, including an overview of financial markets and institutions, basics of stock, bond, and fund investments, and securities analysis.
‘Sports Science Class with Sports Instructors and Prospective Physical Education Teachers’ provides opportunities to experience popular sports such as soccer and tennis, along with exercise prescription practice based on exercise science knowledge, hiking experiences based on theory and orienteering, and self-defense techniques.
Nam Su-ho, head of the Admissions Management Team, introduced the program as “an opportunity to experience specialized university education and environment during vacation,” adding, “It will be very helpful for concrete career exploration and career planning.”
Students who attend more than 90% of the summer school courses and participate diligently will have their completion recorded in their school life records under creative experiential activities along with course completion.
Dong-Eui University has been operating the ‘University Support Project for High School Education Contribution’ supported by the Ministry of Education for eight consecutive years. The school explained that through this project, they strive to improve fairness and professionalism in university admission processes.
