Woowa Brothers Selected as '2021 Korea's Top Job Creator' by Ministry of Employment and Labor

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Woowa Brothers, the operator of Baedal Minjok, announced on the 28th that it has been selected as a '2021 Korea Job Excellence Company' hosted by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.

The Korea Job Excellence Company program was established to discover and encourage companies that have contributed to job creation and have taken the lead in improving job quality. Since 2018, the Ministry of Employment and Labor has selected 100 Job Excellence Companies annually.

Woowa Brothers was recognized for creating a work environment that enables work-life balance through various internal systems and for contributing to youth employment creation.

First, Woowa Brothers abolished the comprehensive wage system in 2019, which paid overtime, holiday, and night work allowances as a lump sum included in the basic monthly salary. Through this, they ensured fair compensation for work, increased employee job satisfaction, and further improved work efficiency.

They also introduced detailed policies regarding pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare. Pregnant employees are allowed to autonomously reduce their working hours by two hours per day during pregnancy. They operate a company daycare center called 'Woahan Daycare' and provide one month of paid parental leave to employees with children in second grade or below in elementary school.

Additionally, they operate welfare programs such as ▲providing 2 million KRW annually in welfare points ▲paying 100,000 KRW for telecommuting support ▲introducing the 'Woahan Sick Leave System' that supports 50% of salary for up to 90 days ▲and paying 3 million KRW for postpartum care center fees upon childbirth of the employee or spouse.

Furthermore, through employment equality systems such as not requiring marital status or family information on resumes during recruitment, they actively promote employment creation for vulnerable groups such as youth and women. Approximately 67% of Woowa Brothers employees are youth aged 19 to 34, and the proportion of female employees is also 45%.

Woowa Brothers was also selected as an excellent company for gender employment equality by the Ministry of Employment and Labor in 2017 and as a family-friendly excellent company certified by the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family in 2018.

Kim Beom-jun, CEO of Woowa Brothers, said, "When work and home life coexist in balance, happiness increases and work productivity improves," adding, "We will continue to carefully manage to make the company a place where all members can happily work."
