[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A group of high school students who assaulted a man in his 40s and stole valuables late at night in a park in Seocho-gu, Seoul, avoided detention.
Seo Bo-min, the judge in charge of warrants at the Seoul Central District Court, held a pre-arrest detention hearing on the 27th for two suspects, including A (16), who are accused of robbery and injury, and dismissed the arrest warrant, stating, "The suspects have fixed residences and there is no concern of evidence tampering or flight."
They are accused of hitting a man in his 40s with their fists and stealing valuables such as a mobile phone in a park in Seocho-gu, Seoul, around 2:40 a.m. on the 18th.
The victim, left alone with injuries on his face and elsewhere, reportedly lay collapsed in the park for about two hours before reporting the assault to the police.
As the police tightened their investigation, A and others voluntarily appeared at the police station on the 21st accompanied by a lawyer. They reportedly admitted most of the charges during the police investigation and expressed remorse.
