Anticipation for September Autumn Event Reveal
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] Foreign media reported that Apple has ordered about 100 million A15 chips to be used in the new iPhone 13 series expected to be released this September.
IT specialized media MacRumors reported on the 26th (local time), citing China's CNBeta, that Apple placed an order for the production of more than 100 million A15 chips from Taiwan's TSMC in preparation for the new iPhone 13 lineup.
The order quantity of 100 million is about 5 million more than the initially planned 95 million by Apple. The A15 chip is an application processor (AP) developed by Apple, and the AP is a key component that acts as the "brain of the computer."
The reason Apple increased the A15 order volume is believed to be due to expectations that demand for the iPhone 13 will be strong. It is also reported that Apple requested to increase the production volume of the new iPhone by more than 25%.
Earlier, Wedbush analyst Dan Ives estimated that the total sales volume of the four iPhone 13 models would reach 130 million to 150 million units in the second half of the year. Especially, most of the shipments are expected to be in the fourth quarter.
The A15 is estimated to offer significantly improved performance compared to the A14 used in the existing iPad Air and iPhone 12. The A15 is expected to be based on a 6-core CPU with 4 high-efficiency cores and 2 high-performance cores.
There have also been market expectations that the new iPhone 13 series using the A15 chip will have higher power efficiency. DigiTimes reported, "Even with the addition of a promotion display, the power efficiency of the 'iPhone 13 Pro' and 'iPhone 13 Pro Max' is expected to improve by 15-20% with the A15 chip."
Apple is expected to hold a fall event this September to unveil the new iPhone and Apple Watch. Last year, the event was delayed by one month, but this year it is expected to return to the usual schedule.
