A Man in His 50s Who Killed an Acquaintance of 20 Years with a Weapon Sent to Prosecution

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A man in his 50s who killed an acquaintance after a long-standing financial dispute has been handed over to the prosecution.


The Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul announced on the 27th that they have sent Mr. A, a man in his 50s, to the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office on charges of murder.


According to the police, Mr. A is suspected of killing Mr. B, a man in his 70s, at a park in Yeongdeungpo-gu around 10:50 p.m. on the 20th.


Mr. B was transported to the hospital and received treatment but did not regain consciousness and passed away.


Investigations revealed that Mr. A had prepared a weapon kept at home in advance before committing the crime.


The police urgently arrested Mr. A, who was hiding at his local residence, around 3:30 p.m. the following day based on nearby CCTV footage, witness statements, and the weapon found at the scene.


After being brought to the Yeongdeungpo Police Station, Mr. A reportedly stated, "I was angry over a financial dispute and committed the crime." The two had known each other for about 20 years.


On the 23rd, Judge Lee Young-gwang, head of the warrant division at the Seoul Southern District Court, conducted a pre-trial detention hearing for Mr. A and issued an arrest warrant, citing "risk of flight."
