[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] In a hypothetical presidential race between ruling and opposition candidates, it was found that Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung and former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl are in a close contest within the margin of error.

Asia Economy commissioned Win-G Korea Consulting to conduct a public opinion survey from the 24th to 25th targeting 1,008 voters nationwide aged 18 and over (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, automated response). When asked, "If Governor Lee and former Prosecutor General Yoon face off in the next presidential election, whom would you support?" 42.4% answered Governor Lee, and 43.9% answered former Prosecutor General Yoon. Former Prosecutor General Yoon led by 1.5 percentage points, showing a close race within the margin of error.

Compared to the previous survey conducted in the second week of July, Governor Lee rose by 0.9 percentage points, and former Prosecutor General Yoon increased by 1.7 percentage points, both maintaining similar levels without significant changes.

By generation, former Prosecutor General Yoon was dominant among those in their 20s (48.0%), 60s (56.7%), and 70s and older (65.4%). Governor Lee showed strength in the 30s (51.5%), 40s (60.2%), and 50s (52.7%), leading in the 3050 age group. Regionally, former Prosecutor General Yoon led in Seoul (48.8%), Daegu·Gyeongbuk (68.7%), Busan·Ulsan·Gyeongnam (46.0%), and Gangwon·Jeju (39.1%), while Governor Lee held an advantage in the Chungcheong region (55.0%) and the Honam region (53.5%), where progressive forces are strong.

Among supporters, 73.5% of Democratic Party supporters responded that they support Governor Lee. In a multi-candidate race including both ruling and opposition candidates, 47.7% of Lee Nak-yeon supporters said they would support Governor Lee in a Lee Jae-myung?Yoon Seok-youl head-to-head race. Among People Power Party supporters, 85.1% supported Yoon Seok-youl in the head-to-head race, showing strong cohesion.

This survey was conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting from the 24th to 25th targeting voters aged 18 and over nationwide, with 1,008 respondents and an overall response rate of 7.0%. The survey method was wireless ARS with 100% mobile phone virtual numbers, and the sample was extracted using weighted values by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021 from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
