Wanju-gun Puts 'Heart and Soul' into Elderly Protection Measures Vulnerable to Heatwaves

Strengthening Customized Care for the Elderly, Promoting Management of Senior Centers and Heat Relief Shelters

Wanju-gun Puts 'Heart and Soul' into Elderly Protection Measures Vulnerable to Heatwaves Wanju-gun is actively implementing protective measures for elderly people vulnerable to heatwaves, such as strengthening customized care for the elderly and managing senior centers and heat shelters.

[Wanju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Wanju-gun is making an all-out effort to promote protective measures for elderly people vulnerable to heatwaves.

On the 27th, Wanju-gun announced that it is strengthening protective measures targeting 3,600 vulnerable elderly people in cooperation with five regional elderly customized care service agencies, elderly welfare facilities, and towns and townships.

Accordingly, by this month, 490 senior centers have been equipped with and are operating air conditioners, and more than 300 heatwave shelters have been prepared.

In addition, since this month, Wanju-gun has been enhancing heatwave care by directly visiting, making phone calls, and expanding monitoring for about 2,000 elderly people receiving customized care services and about 1,500 people receiving emergency safety assurance services.

In particular, since the 1st of this month, life quarantine inspections have been strengthened for senior centers and heatwave shelters that have been fully opened.

As the vaccination rate for those aged 60 and over approaches 90%, it is expected that more elderly people will seek to avoid the heatwave at senior centers and heatwave shelters, so the plan is to devote full efforts to life quarantine management, including providing hand sanitizers, thermometers, and visitor logs.

Wanju-gun also plans to promote protective measures for vulnerable elderly people in a multi-dimensional way by sending heatwave response guidelines via text messages and providing guidance through meetings with village chiefs and women's association presidents.
