[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Yoon Hong-geun, chairman of Genesis BBQ Group, is launching the ‘Youth Smile Project,’ a generous support initiative worth a total of 20 billion KRW for young people facing the worst employment crisis in history.
On the 26th, Chairman Yoon said, "It was heartbreaking to see young people, who should be stepping into society with ambition and passion, unable to even get proper opportunities due to the economic downturn caused by COVID-19 and youth unemployment," adding, "Rather than giving them fish, I want to teach them how to catch fish, creating opportunities for them to take on challenges with passion," explaining the background of the project.
Chairman Yoon’s Youth Smile Project is significant in leading the creation of a virtuous cycle of youth employment in the chicken industry. Under the management philosophy that ‘the franchise industry is an education industry,’ Yoon founded the chicken specialty store BBQ in September 1995 and has shown special interest in startup education, establishing the Chicken University within five years of founding and continuously providing support.
The Youth Smile Project supports young people in operating BSK (BBQ Smart Kitchen), BBQ’s takeout and delivery specialized stores. In particular, it aims to provide verified chicken franchise business opportunities to young people in their 20s and 30s, instilling the DNA to grow into successful entrepreneurs along with a foundation for economic independence. A total of 200 teams will be selected to receive support worth approximately 80 million KRW, including BSK store setup, interior, facilities, and initial operating funds.
Chairman Yoon said, "For young adults who lack social experience or startup knowledge, receiving support from headquarters with expertise in various fields provides a more stable foundation for success," and added, "Anyone with passion and determination for success, regardless of academic background, gender, or region, can apply, so I hope many young people will participate."
