From Global to Healthcare... Insurance Companies Say "Experts Wanted" DB Insurance

[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Hyung-gil] DB Insurance conducted recruitment for Vietnamese specialists earlier this month. Upon seeing the announcement seeking Vietnamese nationals residing in Korea who have graduated from a four-year university, 50 applicants applied. Among them, one candidate was finally selected after the recruitment process. The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the local subsidiary's operations and monitoring trends of local insurance companies. In June, DB Insurance also recruited global interns targeting university students from China, Vietnam, and Myanmar. 130 people applied for the one-month experiential internship, and three final candidates are currently working. DB Insurance plans to utilize them as a talent pool in the future.

Insurance companies have rolled up their sleeves to secure specialized personnel focused on global and healthcare sectors. They appear to be proactively recruiting experts in preparation for overseas business and new ventures in the post-COVID era.

According to the insurance industry on the 30th, Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance is recruiting experienced professionals in overseas business and digital fields until today. The roles include reviewing overseas mergers and acquisitions (M&A) projects, networking with global private equity funds, establishing overseas business strategies, and discovering new businesses. Eligibility includes those with overseas investment experience or experience in promoting insurance-related new businesses.

Additionally, experienced professionals are being recruited in web UI management, server management, and digital UX/UI planning fields. Applicants must have worked in big tech companies or fintech firms or have more than four years of experience in each field. After receiving applications, document screening will be conducted, followed by specialized interviews and final interviews, with the final successful candidates to be selected in September.

Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, which is conducting overseas business in nine countries, is continuously expanding its overseas business centered on the UK and China. Since becoming a strategic shareholder in Fortuna Topco Limited, which owns the UK-based Lloyd's Canopius company in 2019, it is currently developing and promoting collaboration models with Canopius.

Also, the Chinese subsidiary ‘Samsung Property Insurance’ is being converted into a joint venture with investors such as Tencent in China, and is awaiting approval from Chinese regulatory authorities for shareholder changes.

In the healthcare sector, KB Insurance is conducting open recruitment for experienced professionals at its healthcare subsidiary ‘KB Healthcare.’

While awaiting approval from financial authorities next month, they are securing talent. They are recruiting experts in strategy, service, marketing, and IT fields, giving preference to those with experience in application (app) development and operation, cloud projects, and database (DB) management.

KB Healthcare plans to launch as a digital healthcare platform encompassing health management, data, and commerce, and is currently awaiting establishment approval from financial authorities.

Recruitment of digital specialists to capture the insurtech (a combination of insurance and technology) market is also active. Carrot Insurance is recruiting experienced personnel in IT and development roles such as mobile app development, machine learning development, and data analysis. Hyundai Marine & Fire Insurance recently conducted recruitment for experienced DB administrators (DBA).

An industry insider said, "There is inevitably a limit to growth in the domestic insurance market, so it is necessary to secure growth engines in new businesses such as overseas expansion and healthcare," adding, "Despite ongoing restructuring in the industry, the need for specialized personnel in these fields is increasing."
