Gwangju Seo-gu Yang3-dong Welfare Council Selected for Village Welfare Community Resident Public Contest Project

Gwangju Seo-gu Yang3-dong Welfare Council Selected for Village Welfare Community Resident Public Contest Project

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] The Yang 3-dong Community Security Council (Chairman Park Geon-tae) in Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, was selected for the Gwangju City Village Welfare Community Contest Project and conducted a total of four sessions under the theme "A Village Without Loneliness in Balsan" targeting elderly living alone.

According to Yang 3-dong in Seo-gu on the 26th, Obang Cooperative (CEO Choi Eun-young) recently held a folk painting clock-making session using paint and brushes to prevent dementia.

This program involved making a two-tier flowerpot stand using drilled processed wood, and on the 22nd, a small garden was completed by creating assorted flowerpots using succulents.

The final program is scheduled for the 6th of next month, where the participating elderly will gather to prepare happiness lunchboxes and personally deliver them to neighbors in need of care.

The program was promoted to prevent solitary death and dementia among elderly living alone who lead isolated lives due to COVID-19 and lack of social activities, to resolve welfare blind spots, and to encourage active participation in village welfare activities by young entrepreneurs residing in Balsan Village, thereby expanding the social safety net within the community.

Chairman Park Geon-tae said, "I was worried that the elderly’s activities would decrease due to COVID-19 and that their hearts might become isolated, but I hope that through this opportunity, the elderly will communicate with young people and find emotional healing."

Meanwhile, the Yang 3-dong Community Security Council plays a vital role as a guardian angel by delivering hope and comfort for living together to local residents struggling through various welfare projects such as 1:1 sponsorship programs, operating the Love Rice Storage, sharing kimchi for kimjang, and distributing rice cake soup rice cakes.
