Korean archery representatives Kim Je-deok (Gyeongbuk Ilgo) and An San (Gwangju Women's University) crushed the Bangladeshi duo of Ruman Shana and Diya Siddique 6-0 (38-30, 35-33, 39-38) in the first mixed team round of 16 held on the 24th at the Yumenoshima Park Archery Field in Tokyo, Japan.
Kim Je-deok and An San, the youngest male and female members of the team, made their Olympic tournament debut in this match. Korea is aiming for the first gold medal in the mixed team event, which was introduced for the first time in this competition.
Kim Je-deok scored 9 points with his first arrow in the first set. Then An San stepped up to the shooting line and confidently shot a 10. The Bangladeshi players scored 8 and 5 points respectively.
Taking an early lead with a 38-30 score in the first set, Kim Je-deok and An San secured the quarterfinal ticket comfortably by winning two more consecutive sets.
Korea will compete against the Indian pair of Pravin Jadhav and Deepika Kumari, who advanced by defeating Taiwan 5-3, at 2:34 PM to fight for a spot in the semifinals.
