15 Close Contacts Self-Isolating... Unclear Infection Epidemiology Under Investigation
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The number of COVID-19 confirmed cases related to a large accommodation facility in Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon-do has increased to 14.
According to the Hongcheon-gun health authorities on the 23rd, following the confirmation of one employee at the facility on the 12th, 4 more were confirmed on the 20th, 3 on the 21st, and 6 on the 22nd (including 1 family member of an employee and 1 acquaintance of an employee's family member).
In response, the county health authorities placed 23 people who had close contact with the first confirmed case on the 12th under self-quarantine and conducted comprehensive testing on 570 employees, all of whom tested negative.
Currently, 15 close contacts are under self-quarantine following epidemiological investigations, and the authorities plan to conduct comprehensive testing on approximately 700 employees on three occasions: the 24th and 27th of this month, and August 1st, while tracing unclear infection routes.
Meanwhile, Hongcheon-gun is applying strengthened quarantine measures according to Gangwon-do's guidelines, including the implementation of social distancing level 2 (from July 15 to July 31) and a ban on private gatherings of five or more people (from July 19 to August 1).
However, in line with the government's strengthened non-metropolitan quarantine measures, if infections continue to spread within the region, the county plans to consult with Gangwon-do to raise the social distancing level.
With the full arrival of the vacation and holiday season, Hongcheon-gun has urged residents to strictly adhere to basic quarantine rules due to the increased possibility of COVID-19 spreading within the region.
