Seoul City and Donggeuram Jointly Host, Applications Open from 26th to August 31st
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 23rd that it will expand the number of participants in this year’s ‘Pet Owner Competency Test’ from about 1,000 to 5,000 and hold the test online so that everyone can participate.
The Seoul Pet Owner Competency Test, organized by the city and Donggrami since 2019, is now in its third year. It aims to provide pet owners or prospective pet owners an opportunity to check how much they know about their pets and to study to become ‘qualified pet owners.’
Anyone wishing to take the 3rd Seoul ‘Pet Owner Competency Test’ can register via mobile or internet from July 26 to August 31 through the test registration website on the Naver Animal Sympathy blog.
The ‘Pet Owner Competency Test’ will be held on September 12. The dog section will be conducted from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the cat section from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on the test day.
The test questions are prepared with the help of animal behavior experts Seol Chae-hyun, veterinarian Kim Myung-chul, the Seoul Veterinary Medical Association, and the Korean Cat Veterinary Medical Association, covering essential knowledge pet owners must know. The 50 questions cover four major areas, from general knowledge such as animal registration, walking, and grooming methods to specialized knowledge including understanding pet behavior, health management, and current laws, as well as veterinary clinical diseases, nutrition, socialization, behavior science, and regulations.
The test is conducted online, and only applicants will receive the test URL via text message and email to take the test on PC, tablet, or mobile. Cheating is strictly prohibited, as using the internet during the test will cause forced exit from the test window.
Results will be announced in the fourth week of November, allowing individuals to check detailed scores, including individual and average scores, through the test URL. All participants will receive a ‘Certificate of Participation,’ and the top 100 scorers will receive various prizes prepared by Donggrami. Detailed information can be found in the Pet Owner Competency Test notice on the Donggrami blog.
Park Yu-mi, Director of the Seoul Citizen Health Bureau, said, “We hope that many citizens participating nationwide will have a meaningful time gaining understanding and basic knowledge of pets through the Seoul Pet Owner Competency Test,” and added, “Seoul will continue to promote various projects that citizens can participate in to spread a proper pet culture.”
