[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Jang Sung-min, chairman of the World and Northeast Asia Peace Forum and a presidential candidate mentioned in the opposition party, referred to President Moon Jae-in's 'resignation' on the 22nd in relation to Governor Kim Kyung-soo of Gyeongnam Province being sentenced to two years in prison for the 'Druking comment case.'

Jang Sung-min: "The Deokgung Incident is an 'Anti-Democratic Crime'... President Moon Should Consider Resignation and Impeachment"

On that day, Chairman Jang stated through social networking services (SNS), "Governor Kim was a close aide and spokesperson for candidate Moon Jae-in during the 2017 presidential election," adding, "The arrest of Governor Kim on charges of manipulating internet comment public opinion, as the spokesperson for the candidate, strongly signifies the arrest of a proxy acting on behalf of candidate Moon, and Governor Kim's imprisonment also strongly represents proxy imprisonment on behalf of candidate Moon."

He said, "Governor Kim's comment manipulation case will be recorded as a dark page in the constitutional and democratic history of the Republic of Korea," and condemned it as "a national crisis that destroys the democracy of the Republic of Korea, a national disorder, a national disruption, and a constitutional collapse," and "an anti-democratic criminal act that destroyed the constitutional order called democracy, and Governor Kim is a lawbreaker who destroyed the constitution."

Chairman Jang stated, "One cannot help but think about who the biggest beneficiary of such election fraud is," and said, "President Moon should issue a public apology statement to the people."

He then mentioned former President Rhee Syngman’s resignation, arguing, "President Moon should consider whether to voluntarily relinquish the presidency rather than completing the remaining term with the stigma of being an anti-democratic president elected through fraudulent elections."

Furthermore, he said, "The opposition party leader should immediately convene the relevant standing committee to investigate the suspicions of fraudulent manipulation in the last presidential election, restore the collapsing democracy, and recover the stability of the constitutional order," and added, "If thorough investigations reveal circumstances and facts that President Moon was involved in election fraud, impeachment proceedings against the president should be initiated."

Chairman Jang said, "The leaders of both ruling and opposition parties should use Governor Kim’s trial as an opportunity to enter a time of cooperation to decide whether President Moon should resign, be impeached, or be investigated, as the path that will restore the collapsing democracy and maintain the constitutional order," and insisted, "The national crisis (Gukgi Daeran) must never be overlooked or handled lightly."
