A service allowing luggage checked in at Gimpo Airport to be directly received at the reserved accommodation in Jeju Island will be introduced. Passengers can enjoy a "hands-free trip" without needing to pick up their luggage at the airport and simply retrieve it at their accommodation.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korea Airports Corporation announced on the 21st that they will launch a new type of "luggage delivery service" in collaboration with six domestic airlines.
This service will begin on the 26th at 6 a.m., targeting passengers departing from Gimpo Airport and arriving at Jeju Airport. Additional departure airports may be designated in the future based on customer preferences and usage rates.
The luggage delivery service will be operated by the company Jimcarry Co., Ltd., following the airport corporation's bidding results, with participation from six airlines: Korean Air, Air Seoul, Asiana Airlines, Jin Air, Air Busan, and Jeju Air. A memorandum of understanding among related organizations to ensure smooth pilot project implementation was also signed on the 21st.
Passengers using the applicable flights must make a reservation by entering their departure flight, flight information, and delivery destination on the luggage delivery company's website by 6 p.m. the day before departure.
The service fee is 15,000 KRW for a standard carry-on and 20,000 KRW for oversized luggage such as golf bags or bicycles.
On the day of departure, upon arriving at Gimpo Airport, passengers should take a photo of their luggage with their mobile device before checking in their baggage with the airline. They then upload the photo to the luggage delivery company's mobile web and attach the luggage delivery sticker provided at the airline's check-in counter before handing over their luggage.
Afterward, the luggage delivery company will retrieve the passenger's luggage from the baggage claim area within the secure zone of Jeju Airport and transport it to the accommodation. Passengers can track the real-time delivery status of their luggage through the mobile web.
