Mayor Kang Young-seok of Sangju City is seen inspecting the products ahead of loading for peach exports on the 19th, together with officials from Gyeongbuk Trading, an export company.
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Sangju City held a peach export ceremony for the first time this year on the 19th, attended by Mayor Kang Young-seok, member farmers, and officials from the export company Gyeongbuk Tongsang.
Peaches shipped from Sangju City were exported to Malaysia for the first time this year through the export company Gyeongbuk Tongsang, with a volume of about 300 kg.
Malaysia is a market showing high export potential in Southeast Asia due to the Korean Wave, and Korean agricultural products are well loved by locals. In particular, Sangju peaches, which are rich in juice and sweet, are very popular and are expected to be steadily exported this year as well.
Last year, Sangju City exported 60 tons of peaches to Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and other countries, recording export sales of 400 million won.
Mayor Kang Young-seok said, "I congratulate the member farmers who overcame difficulties such as last year's cold damage and the longest rainy season and are exporting peaches for the first time this year. Please continue to produce high-quality agricultural products so that the excellence of Sangju City's agricultural products can be known to more global markets."
