Despite COVID-19 Spread, 1 Million People Gather at Weekend Theaters

'Black Widow' and 'Rangjong' Lead Recovery Trend... 750,681 Viewers Mobilized

Despite the escalation of social distancing measures, nearly one million people flocked to theaters over the weekend. According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticketing system, the number of moviegoers from last weekend (16-18) was 941,101. This is the second highest weekend figure this year. Although it decreased by 297,698 compared to the second weekend of this month (9-11, 1,238,799), it generally maintained a recovery trend.

The driving force was 'Black Widow' and 'Rangjong.' They attracted 750,681 viewers, about 80% of the total audience. In particular, 'Black Widow' led the weekend box office for two consecutive weeks, drawing 445,525 viewers across 1,577 screens (17,189 showings). Although this is a 54.7% (538,993 viewers) decrease from the second weekend of this month (984,518 viewers), it recorded a revenue share of 47.9% (seat occupancy rate 15.9%). The cumulative audience reached 2,139,206, the third highest among this year's releases.

The new release 'Rangjong' attracted 305,156 viewers across 1,402 screens (14,702 showings). It recorded a revenue share of 33.3% with a seat occupancy rate of 13.5%. The cumulative audience is 558,552. The new release 'Escape Room 2: No Way Out' drew 78,602 viewers across 728 screens (5,399 showings). The seat occupancy rate was 11.6%, with a cumulative audience of 112,449.

'Cruella' (31,201 viewers, cumulative 1,914,676), 'Restricted Call' (17,561 viewers, cumulative 935,163), 'Space Jam: A New Legacy' (12,094 viewers, cumulative 14,043), 'A Love Like a Bouquet' (8,668 viewers, cumulative 20,806), and 'Luca' (6,183 viewers, cumulative 367,108) followed in order.
