[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Tae-min] The National Assembly Intelligence Committee passed a special resolution urging the investigation of illegal surveillance by national intelligence agencies and the prevention of its recurrence.

On the 16th, the Intelligence Committee held a plenary session and approved a merged alternative combining the resolutions from the Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party. The resolution includes ▲ prevention of recurrence of illegal surveillance by the Director of the National Intelligence Service ▲ active cooperation by the National Intelligence Service in disclosing surveillance information to requesters and organizations ▲ urging compliance with the National Intelligence Service Act to block illegal political interference. The official title of the resolution is "Special Resolution for the Disclosure of Illegal Surveillance Information by National Intelligence Agencies, Investigation of the Truth, and Prevention of Recurrence."

The committee also urged the Military Security Support Command, military police, police, and prosecution intelligence departments to actively disclose surveillance information. The Intelligence Committee plans to promote a separate special law to regulate the disclosure and disposal procedures of surveillance information in the future.

Kim Kyung-hyup, Chair of the Intelligence Committee, stated, "The approval of this resolution is expected to be an opportunity to completely end illegal surveillance activities by national intelligence agencies, following the full revision of the National Intelligence Service Act last December for reforming the National Intelligence Service."
